Manual lymphatic drainage
Manual lymphatic drainage is a specialized massage technique that should only be practiced by trained therapists.
The lymphatic system is the secondary circulation system in the body with a very complex set of tasks.
The main tasks are to clean and nourish the cells. It sounds simple enough, but without that, we would not survive long.
The lymphatic system is a kind of intermediary between blood circulation and individual cells.
Lymph is a clear fluid that contains nutrients and oxygen similar to blood, but without red and white blood cells. It comes from the general circulation and is deposited around the cells to keep them nourished.
Cells can discard residues and toxic materials in this fluid. The lymphatic vessels collect this waste and any excess fluid from around the cells and transport it, through the lymph nodes that in turn filter it, back into the general circulation.
